Costs rise while gross profit falls
In 2025, 10,919 of 65,812 accounts showed this combination (16.59%). The panel requires positive staff costs in both years and positive previous-year gross profit. This association does not explain why the figures changed.

Rental and leasing activities has the highest share among 29 divisions with at least 500 matched accounts: 118 of 540 (21.85%). Differences are not adjusted for size, business mix or accounting coverage.

Among 45,151 accounts with usable employee counts in both years, the middle half ranges from DKK 366,414 to 653,190 per average employee in 2025. The median is DKK 499,078. This subset covers 68.61% of the cost panel.

Groups use the annual report's previous-year average employee count. Fractional values are retained. Changes are calculated per filing entity and summarised by the median and 25th/75th percentiles. They are nominal, without inflation adjustment. Groups below 100 accounts are omitted; shares and distribution measures require at least 30 observations.

Source and methodology
Source: companydata.dk · annual reports/XBRL and CVR, Danish Business Authority. Reviewed analysis using cached annual-report sources. A new edition requires a new calculation; daily catalogue updates retain the extraction date. A saved edition preserves the figures, methodology and downloads from the same extraction.

The 2025 and 2024 panels are selected separately from stored accounts published by extraction. Each CVR must have exactly one filing ending in the year, a calendar-year period and DKK currency. Currently dissolved companies may be included. This is a restricted accounting population, not all Danish employers.
Current stored DB25 primary industry is used as a fixed classification. Divisions 64–66 (finance, insurance and holding) and unknown industries are excluded. Source verification requires stored positive staff costs and a numeric gross-profit figure. Missing data is not zero. Municipalities describe registered company addresses, not workplace locations.
Each selected account's cached XBRL/iXBRL source is read again. CVR identity, calendar periods, source units, sign and scale are checked. Current and comparative figures come from the same annual report; comparatives may have been restated in that report. Current staff costs and gross profit must exactly match stored current figures. Missing, ambiguous and files above 8 MB are excluded and counted.
One aggregate context type is used per period: plain contexts first, then explicit separate-company and finally consolidated scope. Segment breakdowns are excluded, both periods must use the same context type, and conflicting facts are not accepted. Company/group scope without an explicit marker is shown as unresolved. Entities receive equal weight; money and employees are not summed across possible group overlaps.
Staff costs must be positive in both years. Previous gross profit must be positive so percentage changes have a positive denominator; current gross profit may be negative. Change is (current / previous − 1) × 100. Rising costs and falling gross profit require strictly positive and negative changes respectively; exactly unchanged figures form a separate category.
Staff cost per employee requires an unambiguous positive average employee count in the same period and context type as costs, in both years. Fractional values are retained; non-finite counts and values above 200,000 are treated as unknown. Neither the legacy first-occurring employee fact nor company-master employment is used. Missing or unusable employee counts exclude an account only from per-employee figures, not the overall cost panel.
Staff costs include wages, pensions and other employee expenses. They are not take-home pay. Gross profit is neither revenue nor annual net profit, and accounting presentation varies. Employees can have international or group scope. These figures must not be interpreted as wage statistics, productivity, Danish job growth or a causal explanation.
All changes are nominal. Medians and quartiles use individual filing entities' levels or changes, with linear interpolation at position (n−1) × percentile. There is no size weighting, inflation adjustment or extrapolation. Groups below 100 accounts are omitted; distribution measures require at least 30 observations. The highlighted industry comparison requires at least 500 matched accounts per division. Newest years appear first.
