SE number (SE-nummer)
An SE number is an 8-digit registration number the Danish Tax Agency uses for settling VAT, withheld income tax, payroll tax and other duties. For most businesses the SE number is identical to the CVR number, but a business can hold several SE numbers.
SE stands for Stamregister for Erhvervsdrivende, the register the tax authorities used before CVR was introduced in 1999. When CVR arrived, existing businesses received their SE number as CVR number, and new businesses get one number used in both places.
When does a business have several SE numbers?
A business can request extra SE numbers to settle parts of its activities separately, for example a partial VAT registration for a specific division, separate settlement of import and export, or a separate payroll tax registration. These extra numbers are known only to the Tax Agency and the business; in CVR the business still has one CVR number.
CVR number, SE number and P number
- CVR number: the legal entity's identification, public and lifelong
- SE number: the tax and duty registration, usually equal to the CVR number
- P number: each physical address a business operates from
Frequently asked questions
Are the SE number and the CVR number the same?
For the vast majority of businesses, yes. The number is the same but is used by two authorities for two purposes: CVR for registration and the Tax Agency for settlement.
When does a business get an extra SE number?
When it wants to settle VAT or duties for part of the business separately, for example through a partial registration or separate import and export settlement.
Can I look up an SE number?
An SE number equal to the CVR number can be looked up as a CVR number. Extra SE numbers are not in CVR and cannot be looked up publicly.
