Fondens hovedformål er at bidrage til udviklingen af Danmarks handel og industri, og fondens bestyrelse er ikke udelukket fra at anvende de til uddeling kommende midler på nogen som helst måde, der efter dens skøn kan tjene til fremme af dette formål Ganske særligt skal de til uddeling kommende midler anvendes: 1) til hjælp til uddannelse af velbegavede og uformuen- de unge handelsmænd og polytekniske studerende og kandidater, idet der såvidt muligt holdes øje med, at legatnyderne er flittige og arbejdsomme, således at yderligere støtte bortfalder, hvis disse forud- sætninger for hjælpen ikke fyldestgøres, 2) til uddannelse af lærere ved højere handelsskoler eller ved Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, og eventuelt ved landets tekniske skoler. 3) til fremme og udvikling af sådanne planer eller fo- retagender på handelens og industriens områder, der af fondens bestyrelse måtte skønnes at kunne virke fremmende for Danmarks handels- eller erhvervsliv eller iøvrigt at kunne blive til ære for Danmark Fondens bestyrelse kan tilsige støtte til fremme af de ovenfor under nr. 1-3 nævnte formål i et enkelt eller flere, nærmere bestemte år. Det skal dog altid være en betingelse for, at der i henhold til sådanne tilsagn kan udredes støtte i efterfølgende regnskabsår, at de dertil fornødne midler er til disposition i disse år, og såfremt dette ikke skulle være tilfældet, skal samtlige således tilsagte bidrag reduceres forholdsmæs- sigt Skulle der ikke indkomme en tilstrækkelig mængde kvalificerede ansøgninger (jfr. fundatsens paragraf 13) om hjælp til fremme af Danmarks handel og industri, således at det beløb, der i det pågældende regnskabsår er til disposition til uddeling, ikke derved fuldtud optages, skal fondens bestyrelse være berettiget til at anvende det overskydende til fremme af andre for Danmark samfundsnyttige formål. Dog må ingen hjælp ydes til formål og opgaver, som det retteligt påhviler stat eller kommune at fyldestgøre; ejheller må nogetsomhelst beløb anvendes til pensioner eller almindelige understøttelser eller belønninger til personer Den del af det i det pågældende år til uddeling værende beløb, for hvilket der heller ikke efter bestem- melserne i det foregående stykke måtte være en efter bestyrelsens skøn forsvarlig anvendelse, oplægges til fondens kapital som i fundatsens paragraf 3 foreskrevet
