Ownership and management of Danish companies

Who owns the company? Who sits on the board? And who stepped down as director in 2019? On companydata.dk, we gather all ownership and management data from CVR onto the company page — with a visual corporate tree, a sorted management list, and full history. This guide explains what you see and how to use it.

The corporate tree

The corporate tree shows the company's group structure in a visual overview. The current company sits in the centre with a distinct border. Above it you see the owners — companies first, then individuals. Below are companies the entity itself owns (subsidiaries). Every element is clickable and links to the relevant company or participant page.

The first three owners and subsidiaries are shown by default. If there are more, you can expand them with a "Show more" button. Each owner node displays name, CVR number (for companies), and an ownership percentage badge.

How do you read CVR ownership shares?

CVR does not report exact ownership percentages — instead it registers the lower bound of an interval. We display ownership as a range, e.g. "50-66.65%". This is because Danish law only requires disclosure when ownership crosses specific thresholds.

  • 5-9.99% — the lowest reporting threshold
  • 10-14.99%
  • 15-19.99%
  • 20-24.99%
  • 25-33.32%
  • 33.33-49.99% — over one third, provides blocking minority in many companies
  • 50-66.65% — majority ownership
  • 66.66-89.99% — qualified majority
  • 90-99.99%
  • 100% — full ownership
Why intervals?
CVR only requires disclosure when ownership crosses a threshold. An owner with exactly 37% will be shown as "33.33-49.99%". This isn't an error — it's how CVR data is structured.

Who are beneficial owners?

Since 2017, Danish companies have been required to register their beneficial owners (reelle ejere). Beneficial owners are the natural persons who ultimately control the company — even when ownership runs through a chain of holding companies. This ensures transparency and is an important tool for preventing money laundering and tax evasion.

In the corporate tree, you'll see both companies and individuals as owners. The individuals — marked with a person icon — are typically the beneficial owners. Click on a person to go to their participant page, where you can see all their roles across companies.

Directors

The directors list shows the company's executive management. The CEO (ADM. DIREKTØR) appears at the top. Each name has a type icon: a person silhouette for individuals, a building icon for companies, and a globe for foreign entities. Names are clickable — individuals link to their participant page, companies to their company page.

Board of directors

The board list is sorted by role: chairman first, then vice-chairman, then regular members, and alternates (suppleanter) last. Each member is shown with their function in parentheses and the same icon and link logic as the directors section. If the company has a registered auditor, they appear here as well.

Founders

If the company has registered founders in CVR, they appear in a separate section. Founders can be individuals or companies, and are shown with the same clickable links as the rest of the management section.

History and timeline

Below the management list you'll find a "Show history" button. Click it to reveal all former directors and board members with appointment and resignation dates. Historical members are shown at reduced opacity to distinguish them from current ones.

The company timeline also records management changes as events: director joined and left, board member joined and left, ownership change, auditor change, and auditor departure. Pro users see the full history.

Monitor changes

With a Pro subscription, you can set up notifications for ownership and management changes. Choose exactly which events you want to be alerted about: ownership transfers, board changes, or director changes. Useful for keeping tabs on competitors, partners, or companies you're evaluating for credit.
